  15. Bola / Horizophon 46:25
  16. Anthony Rother / Magic Diner Part 8 51:58
  17. Boards Of Canada / Open The Light 55:47

Subterranean Crystal City is a cool piece on the local Seattle label Innerflight Music. I think I ended up with a copy of it as a promo; I'm not sure. At some point I'll have to dig through that label's catalog.

Two tracks by Chris Randall made it in: drt_895r, and Remoter. The latter under his Micronaut alias. I've only recently started picking up his releases, and so far they've all been very good.

Open The Light by BoC was a last-minute choice. It turns out Music Has The Right To Children is 20 years old as-of last week. Originally released April 20th 1998. Ah... I see what they did there.

Not sure what I'll play next week. I might have to start repeating tracks soon.

MTT060 Spectrogram

Techno by way of Motorlab.su and a few old detroit (and detroit-y) pieces.
Right-click save-as here or on the spectrogram above to download the mix from aNONradio's archives.

  1. Jon'smu / Reception 00:00
  2. Kenny Larkin / Intro 03:30
  3. Jon'smu / Hall 07:19
  4. Sinuosity / Time Start 09:20
  5. Gliese / To Neptune 11:45
  6. IVM² / "R" Future 13:53
  7. Qybrid / k523 16:45
  8. Numbercult / Prototype-O 19:32
  9. Model 500 / Lightspeed 22:26
  10. Phase 313 / Silence 28:25
  11. Paperclip People / The Climax (Basic Reshape) 33:04
  12. Sinuosity / Soulrotor 35:28
  13. Millsart / Gamma Player 39:04
  14. Phoboz / Betelgeuse 44:14
  15. Sinuosity / Variable 47:26
  16. X-102 / Mimas 50:32
  17. Unknown / Unknown Trak 54:30
  18. Jon'smu / Room 58:05

The majority of this mix - 11 tracks - is from Motorlab Records or its sublabel Cyclon. The Jon'smu, Sinuosity, Gliese, Qybrid, Phase 313, Phoboz, and Unknown tracks specifically. There's a lot of great detroit-y spaced-out techno on Motorlab. Recommended if you're into that.

The numbercult track I've included doesn't seem to be available anymore, unfortunately. It's from an album called Prototypes that used to be on bandcamp.

Gamma Player stands out among the non-Motorlab tracks. Easily my favorite Jeff Mills track, and one of my favorite tracks period.

The levels are a bit uneven in this recording - looking at you, track 2 - but hopefully not too bad. This was a fun one to mix. I should have closed with Sex In Zero Gravity, though.

Mostly electro. A few recent purchases, a few old favorites.

  2. Deluge / Metapop (Daniel Zax Remix) 02:55
  3. Miotek / Future For Machines 06:40
  4. Subway / Drop 10:25
  5. Suburban Knight / Collaboration Alpha 14:40
  6. Fleck E.S.C. / Dead End 17:42
  7. ITPDWIP / Eto Ya (It's Me) 21:00
  8. Drøn / Paradroid 24:34
  9. Igors Vorobjovs / Three Laws Of Robotics (In Circuit Mix) 28:10
  10. Datawave / Stratoforms 32:04
  11. Sbles3plex / Alternative 2 36:12
  12. Sbles3plex / Pmm Pss Tah 38:15
  13. Krypton 81 / Dobbeltgænger 41:30
  14. E.R.P. / Sensory Process 45:03
  15. Drexciya / Birth Of New Life 52:58
  16. Nei / Gates 58:50

I recently picked up the Sbles3plex album, Máquinas Deseantes; it's incredibly good. A nice range of tracks, very clean sounding. A well-mastered release in general - by which I mean it hasn't been compressed to hell. And it works as an album! The kind you listen to from beginning to end! I rarely enjoy listening to full-album-length Electro or Techno releases that way.

Both Drop by Subway and Collaboration Alpha by Suburban Knight are tracks that I've been playing for years. Usually in the same set. Drop was an odd used bin find, an electro-ish track from what I assume are House producers. Suburban Knight is, well, he's awesome. My Sol Dark Direction is indispensable.

The end of this mix is maybe a bit lazy, letting a couple of long tracks play from beginning to end (more or less), but they deserve to be heard in full. Sensory Process by E.R.P. is a monster. High drama. Megaphysics would call it "moody". Same with Birth Of New Life by Drexciya, slotted in here to bring things down a bit. The mix doesn't really work, but that's OK.

I did not realize it was Friday the 13th until half an hour before this was recorded. Some of the later selections (particularly Dobbeltgænger) may have been influenced by that discovery...

MTT058 Spectrogram

An hour of techno & electro, messily mixed.
Right-click save-as here or on the spectrogram above to download the mix from aNONradio's archives.

  1. Brk / I 00:00
  2. Brk / II 01:00
  3. Dark Matrix / Untitled [LSF007 A1] 04:08
  4. Kenny Larkin / Nocturnal 08:56
  5. UR / Biosensors In Tunnel Complex Africa 11:47
  6. Joey Beltram / The Vertical 15:58
  7. XY0815 / Tool Matter 21:55
  8. Lerosa / Regret 24:57
  9. Dark Matrix / Untitled [LSF007 A3] 28:46
  10. Dan White / Buckley's Escape 32:53
  11. Transllusion / Memories Of Me 35:19
  12. Kan3da / Lost Gem 38:10
  13. Drexciya / Andreaen Sand Dunes 40:58
  14. =UHU= / Contact Binary Aureole 45:39
  15. =UHU= / NGC 001 48:18
  16. Spin Fidelity / We Dig Deeper 50:43
  17. Dynarec / Historic Exhale 53:40
  18. Le Car / Cinematic-Automatic (Heinrich Muller Remix) 58:26

The goal this week was to play Andreaen Sand Dunes by Drexciya. The rest of the tracks were arranged with that in mind. Andreaen is an amazing song, probably my favorite of Drexciya's work. I picked up my copy new(ish) at Platinum Records in Portland; last I checked (a year or so ago), they still had one copy for sale.

A couple other favorites snuck in during the selection process. Most important, and the one I'd like to highlight, is The Vertical by Joey Beltram. By far my favorite track by Beltram. Also some of my favorite drum machine programming. I don't often like the 909, but I love it in The Vertical. The album I have it on - the 2xCD Ghost In The Shell PSX Soundtrack - deserves an entire post (and mix) to itself, so look out for that in the future.

And that's it. Now to write up a reminder sheet so I'll remember what to say during the intro...

MTT057 Spectrogram

Dub Techno and Electro this week. A little IDM? Ambient?
Right-click save-as here or on the spectrogram above to download the mix from aNONradio's archives.

  1. Dublicator / Forest Of Unknown Thoughts 00:00
  2. Waveform / Nova Prospect 05:28
  3. Zzzzra / La Danse Hanta 08:57
  4. Seal Bient / Installation 12:27
  5. Melotone / Gray Sky 16:07
  6. Brother Blue / Gradual Brightening 20:09
  7. Dcast Dynamics / Under Current 25:58
  8. Delayscape / Bad Pad 32:08
  9. Nullptr / Many Worlds 35:37
  10. Zwart Licht Kommando / Waiting For You 39:07
  11. DMX Krew / Channel Pressure 43:53
  12. Dynarec / Beyond The City Walls 47:25
  13. Franck Kartell / Coincidences 49:27
  14. User48736353001 / 18 SsbA 54:16
  15. Inkamera / Shto 58:05

Deepindub, Motorlab, Noxgenus, and Recycled Plastics all appear again in this mix, carried over from last week. I hadn't quite worked the Dub Techno out of my system.

Coincidences by Franck Kartell is my highlight here. Really excellent tune. Various Objekts 2, the compilation I have it on, is very much worth picking up. (And It's free!)

This is (was) the day after my show at Ground Kontrol, so there was no plan. Not too much to say either. I hope you enjoy the tunes. If you do, please support the artists.

MTT056 Spectrogram

Dub Techno for overcast, rainy, moody weather.
Right-click save-as here or on the spectrogram above to download the mix from aNONradio's archives.

  1. Seal Bient / Runout 02.03 00:00
  2. Zzzzra / Eau Lourde 04:23
  3. Zwart Licht Kommando / Natural Ingredients 09:47
  4. Stereopathy / Sensory Overload 13:26
  5. Re-Drum / Subaquatic Utopia 19:21
  6. Seal Bient / Untitled [ML051 03] 24:12
  7. Zwart Licht Kommando / Blue Mountain Rain 27:21
  8. Bvdub / Panopticon 30:45
  9. Deepchord / Spiral 2 35:09
  10. Textural Being / The Sixth Gap (Reshape #2) 39:33
  11. Phoboz / Five After Midnight 42:45
  12. Omar S & Shadow Ray / Oasis Five 46:30
  13. Legowelt / Dare To Dream 50:21
  14. Tones On Tail / Rain 57:16

The majority of this mix is selections from netlabels - BIO-MECHANICS, Deepindub, Motorlab, Noxgenus, Recycled Plastics. Dub Techno seems to be a popular style for free netlabels. Thinner immediately comes to mind as a famous example.

I go shopping for Dub Techno a few times a year, surfing from artist to artist or from label to label to find new music. In the last week I picked up a bunch of music from Deepindub, and that led me to Recycled Plastics. There's a lot of good stuff on those two labels; I've only scratched the surface here.

Having said that, Noxgenus18 by Zwart Licht Kommando is the reason this mix happened. Released December 2017, I found it a few weeks ago and have had parts of it on repeat since. It's fantastic. And it's available for free at the link above, so give it a listen.

MTT No. 030 / Strugglin'

MTT030 Spectrogram

A mixture of Dubstep and Dub Techno this week. Right-click save-as here or on the spectrogram above to download the mix from aNONradio's archives.

  1. Basic Channel / Radiance II
  2. Scuba / Speak
  3. Reedale Rise / Duv
  4. Jus Wan / Stand Dub
  5. 2562 / Moog Dub
  6. Insync vs Mysteron² / Naked I
  7. RSD / Speeka Box
  8. Martyn / Shadowcasting
  9. 2562 / Circulate
  10. Saafi Brothers / Internal.Code.Error. (Bandulu Remix)
  11. Bandulu / Isn't It Time
  12. Basic Channel / Octagon
  13. Shackleton / You Bring Me Down
  14. The Black Dog / Siiiipher (The Bass Soldier's Forgemaster Remix)
  15. Appleblim / Vansan (T++ Remix)
  16. 2562 / Enforcers
  17. Gatekeeper / Let Go
  18. Distance / Delight

The selection above is directly inspired by DJ Struggle's 2007 mix Struggle Dubs 5. It used to be hosted on insectmind.com, but has since disappeared from the internet. One transition - Octagon to You Bring Me Down - was lifted straight from Struggle's mix.

More broadly, Struggle Dubs 5 was the first time I'd heard dubstep that referenced the dub techno sound. 2562's Aerial, in particular is very good at this. It's a sound I still very much like, even if it's maybe a bit dated now.

A bit of a messy mix (I shouldn't have played Isn't It Time), but hopefully still enjoyable.

MTT No. 007 / A Little Basic

Posted 2017-04-14. Permalink. Tagged anonradio, dub techno, movement through thought, music, radio, techno.

MTT007 Spectrogram

Dub Techno this week. My connection to aNONradio dropped near the end of this mix, so, unfortunately, there's about 5 minutes worth of "Vitamin" by Kraftwerk shoved between the last two tracks. Because of that I'm not linking to the recording here; it can be found at (fished out of) the aNONradio archives.

  1. Alteria Percepsyne / Violet Detachment
  2. Seal Bient / Runout 02.02
  3. Ovatow / Permutation Two
  4. Ben Businovski / Communication Bridge
  5. Buntaro Toriyama / Dive Into Preparation
  6. JGarrett / Vaporizer (Kris Moon Remix)
  7. Sustainer / Monocromo_A
  8. W-Moon / Coo
  9. Phoboz / Kryostasis (Basic)
  10. Maurizio / M-4 B
  11. Maurizio / M-4 A
  12. Basic Channel / Quadrant Dub I
  13. Basic Channel / Quadrant Dub II
  14. Daniel Blomqvist / Delay
  15. Robert Hood / And Then We Planned Our Escape [126 BPM Shift]

Not a particularly deep selection. Some more Motorlab (carrying over from last week), some Thinner, a couple of proper Basic Channel classics, and a timestretched Robert Hood track to close it out.
