  1. Shine Grooves / Runout 04.07 00:00
  2. Shanti Celeste / SSS (OG Cut) 01:20
  3. Peverelist / Better Ways Of Living 06:45
  4. Miotek & WRTH / Our Funk (Radioactiveman Remix) 09:50
  5. Indio / Armenian Eyes 14:13
  6. Micronaut / Quadstepper 17:29
  7. Annie Hall / Sky Watcher 19:28
  8. Ion Driver / Magma 24:30
  9. Dexter / Ech Vet! 28:37
  10. Transllusion / Consequences 33:36
  11. Aril Brikha / Sweet Lullaby 37:10
  12. Pathic / Inklik 39:09
  13. MAS 2008 / X-Perience The Reality 44:57
  14. Fatima Yamaha / Between Worlds 47:09
  15. Rude 66 / My 909 53:13
  16. S.Slot / Afterlife 57:44

I said at the beginning of this show that I was going to play electro. That turned out to be both true and not - there's a quite a bit of weirdness in this selection. The Peverelist track: is it dubstep (or maybe garage)?. Is Armenian Eyes by Indio future jazz? I know Shanti Celeste and Fatima Yamaha (AKA Bas Bron) for their house music - so what are those tracks? These genre labels start to break down. And that's interesting to me.

Having said that, my standout track this week is a more traditional electro piece: Inklik by Pathic. Available on the Pyramid Transmissions Free Sampler as well as Interstellar Communications Vol. 1, which I still need to pick up. I've mentioned Pyramid Transmissions before, and my recommendation still holds. I can't wait to play more of their tracks.

It's a goal of mine to try and play different genres, different sounding music, within each of these sets. I believe I succeeded this week, and I'm happy with the result.

Now I've got to go clean that scratchy potentiometer.

  1. So Takahashi / Pattern #15 [-8%] 00:00
  2. Raiders Of The Lost Arp / Arrival 01:03
  3. Patrick Cowley / Sea Hunt 05:04
  4. Polarius / On The Seaside 08:58
  5. Orgue Electronique / Bitter Cherry Leaves 12:37
  6. Lowfish / No Longer Accepting Complaints 14:57
  7. Giorgio / E=MC² 19:24
  8. Skatebård / Vuelo 22:12
  9. Late Invitation / The Invite 28:03
  10. Omar S & Kai Alce / Not Phazed 30:29
  11. Legowelt / Are You Truly Debonaire? 33:34

  13. Alexander Robotnick / Problèmes D'Amour (Original 12") 40:13
  14. Giorgio / I Wanna Rock You 44:02
  15. Polygamy Boys ft. Lindsay-J / Mystic Eyes 48:23
  16. SYD / Altered States 54:09
  17. Legowelt / Gina Flies To Space 55:15

Bunker, Crème Organization (a lot of Crème, 4 tracks), Viewlexx, and a small helping of proper old italo-disco thanks to Patrick Cowley, Giorgio Moroder, and Alexander Robotnick. I put this together as an excuse to play Mystic Eyes, which I recently (re)discovered.

Three tracks by Legowelt make it in: On The Seaside, Are You Truly Debonaire, and Gina Flies To Space. It makes me really happy that On The Seaside mixes into Sea Hunt so nicely.

The bit in the middle - Vuelo, The Invite, Not Phazed - is a weird little house aside. I'm not sure it works, but that's OK; it changes up the sound nicely. The Omar-S track in particular is really good.

There's a sloppy transition or two, and a few of the tracks could be swapped out for something more suitable, but then that's always true of my sets. I had a great time mixing these tunes again; can't ask for more than that.

So that's a repeat performance of MTT069 in full, a grab-bag middle, and a bunch of '98-'05 electro at the end. (Years there are a wild guess...)

It was a solid night. I got to play a bunch of recently-purchased Pyramid Transmissions. Megaphysics played a selection of good old detroit tunes; a lot of old Transmat.

Scored 445,000 in Strikers 1945; made it to the second phase of the stage 5 boss. Need more practice.

I'm a fan of 1980s electro (and funk, and hip-hop) but I'm by no means an expert. The selection here represents a few of the New York electro tracks I've been able to find in used bins over the last ~15 years. If you like the style, please seek out articles or other DJs who specialize in it, because there's a lot more. (And so much of it is really, really good.)

There is some new music here, of course. Prime Dominance and Menusha & The Girls on Dominance Electricity, DMX Krew on Strange life, the Akamagoo track on Elektrodos. But the newest-to-me is Reeno's two releases here, Me & My Moog and Forces. Reeno has a bandcamp page full of excellent funky, synth-y electronic music. Those two tracks, and his work in general, are my recommendation this week.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, specifically Mr. Magic's Wildstyle Pirate Radio, was floating around in the back of my mind while mixing this. It wasn't the first place I'd heard this style of music, but it definitely was the first time I'd heard some of these tracks. Mr. Magic was of course a real, and notable, person in his own right; check out the discogs link above and his wikipedia article for more information.

And that's it. Will be back next week with a more low-key set.

I had planned to think sunny thoughts, but this happened instead. Electro, ~135 BPM, mostly 2000s.

  1. Insektoid / Uncalculated Motion In Space [Edit] 00:00
  2. Rutherford / Spoken Word 03:53
  3. Diamondback Kid / Coma 07:23
  4. Psi Spy v Formless / Locked 10:57
  5. Hydraulix / Robocop 15:09
  6. Symbiotek / Assembler 18:58
  7. Tactical Systems / Actuation 22:45
  8. Andrea Parker & David Morley / Game Over 26:19
  9. E.M.S. / Close Encounters 29:38
  10. The Sentinel / Solar Cycle 33:47
  11. Eon / Tantalus V5 37:06
  12. Sonar Base / Sonar Base #10 41:33
  13. T.E.S.T. / Straight Forward 46:45
  14. Ossacip / Ohm Sweet Ohm 50:31
  15. Mandroid / Driving In My Turbo Mini 54:17
  16. Forceback / Back On Track 59:02

Solar Cycle by The Sentinel and Sonar Base #10 by Sonar Base are the standout tracks for me. Sonar Bases 4-10 is exceptional. The Sentinel's Critical Phaze EP is new to me, so I haven't had as much time to digest it, but it (and Solar Cycle in particular) is also very good.

This mix happened because I recently purchased the first five releases on Pyramid Transmissions. I've only scratched the surface here with the two Pyramid tracks in this mix (Psi Spy v Formless and the Ossacip track). There's some beautiful, spare, clean electro on these releases. Reminiscent of the first years of Touchin' Bass. Can't recommend the label enough. I'll definitely be playing more of their releases over summer.

Next week will probably be more low-key. Maybe some disco. We'll see.

A mix of breaks, IDM, and electro this week. It sounds like... nonsense. Heh.

  1. Luke Vibert / Reality Check 00:00
  2. Sint / Off To Work 03:49

  4. Wenzel / Latenight Drive 09:03

  8. Intelligent Concept / Keep Da' Groove 25:09
  9. Nagz / Daughter of Time 29:32
  10. Tusken Raiders / Sexy Sandpeople 31:35

  12. Imatran Voima / Commando (Sbassship Remix) 36:52
  13. Brothomstates / Rktic 40:48
  14. Two Lines / Lexo 1000 45:21
  15. Outputmessage / Bernard's Song 51:12
  16. Hajimari ft. Jai Tee / Untitled 56:16

I'm feeling particularly braindead today, so I'll keep my comments short.

Nagz' Daugher of Time is supremely awesome and way, way too short. I've played Nagz once before on MTT. There's a directory full of his Fasttracker 2 mods on my hard drive that I need to go through. Might be a good idea to do a few extended edits, too.

Brothomstates' Rktic is the only record I have on the Warp sublabel Arcola. I'm a huge fan of Brothomstates, as I've mentioned before. It's a killer 12". The b-side - Matala Bobo - is just as good as Rktic.

The Lexo 1000 to Bernard's Song transition is one I particularly like, and have done a few times at Ground Kontrol. Both tracks are from very good (and very different) compilations.

I don't know what the selection will look like next week. I'll spend my time thinking sunny thoughts, and we'll see what happens.

Logical Aggression @ Ground Kontrol / May 2018

For the first time in years, I took notes while playing tracks at Ground Kontrol this month. (I always take notes ahead of time for reference, but I never mark the track order while DJing).

Megaphysics played an excellent disco / misc electronic set from about 9:00 PM to 11:30 PM, and then I played this:

  1. Fellmann & Louise / Chicken Sandwich ~11:30 PM
  2. Indulin / Lovin' It
  3. Indulin / Synthin' Clock Funk
  4. SCSI-9 / Silkworm
  5. Mrs Jynx / Supermarket Sandwiches
  6. Gottfried Y. Leibniz / Reliable Sun Ritual (0001)
  7. Indulin / Acid Footsteps
  8. Super secret track
  9. Norken / Static
  10. Matt Flores / Pursuit of Happiness
  11. Carl Finlow / Wafer Thin
  12. Metamatics / Hymn Bream
  13. AFX / Analogue Bubblebath
  14. Ed Chamberlain / Place
  15. Scape One / Plastic Lunch
  16. Elecktroids / Silicon Valley
  17. Nagz / Daughter of Time
  18. The Green Man / Deep Below
  19. Metamatics / Mops
  20. Jega / Starglider
  21. Paul Hardcastle / Loitering With Intent
  22. Quadrant 77 & Roller8 / Roll Into Space
  23. Jega / Knight Lore
  24. User48736353001 / Bimbongo
  25. Solenoid / July's War Butterflies
  26. Carl Finlow / Night Owl
  27. Plaid / Spudink
  28. Metamatics / Man-q-Neons
  29. Scape One / Internal Symmetry
  30. Mrs Jynx / Long Lost
  31. Jega / Oak Hanger
  32. Link / Arcadian (Global Communication Remix) ~1:30 AM
  33. Gottfried Y. Leibniz / Twofoldness
  34. XY0815 / Fuck Mars, We're On Earth Now
  35. Higher Intelligence Agency / ting
  36. Plaid / Headspin

Finished at 2 AM. A relatively lazy set, full of recycled mixes from my recent radio shows. I love ending sets with Headspin...

I'll try to do this when I play out. Hopefully somebody finds it useful.

More IDM this week. It's been a very IDM-y month.

  2. Plaid / Undoneson 00:53
  3. Clatterbox / Jet Set 04:17
  4. Plaid / Spudink 07:29
  5. Lego Feet / Leaves On The Line 11:17
  6. Jega / Starglider 14:30
  7. Paul Hardcastle / Loitering With Intent 15:33
  8. Quadrant 77 & Roller8 / Roll Into Space 19:14
  9. Jega / Knight Lore 23:01
  10. AFX / Analogue Bubblebath 25:53
  11. Ed Chamberlain / Place 29:35
  12. Elecktroids / Silicon Valley 33:57
  13. Benjamin May / Norshor Nights 36:46
  14. The Green Man / Deep Below 40:00
  15. Metamatics / Mops 42:20
  16. Indulin / Strangeness 46:33
  17. Ed Chamberlain / Landmine 48:58
  18. International Debris / Sonmi 451 (Electric Sea) 54:22
  19. International Debris / Level Seven Environment Four 57:48

Somewhere between half and a third of this mix is proper old IDM. Old Warp, Skam, Hydrogen Dukebox, etc. Both Lego Feet and Jega's 1995 are relatively recent releases (or re-release in the case of the former). They're absolutely fantastic and worth picking up.

The two Ed Chamberlain tracks are from his Untitled release on Semantica Records. I've had those three tracks on repeat for weeks now. They're very good.

Sonmi 451 by International Debris was a last-minute addition (hence the flubbed mix). I think the track title is a reference to Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell... I should read that. In any case, it's a really cool ambient piece from the album Myosphere, and works well as a final track.

And that's week 65 done. Check back next time for what'll probably be the chillout set of the month.
