MTT126 Spectrogram

The four-on-the-floor trend continues this week with some house and techno. Beware the sketchy vinyl recordings.

Right-click save-as here or on the spectrogram above to download the mix from aNONradio's archives.

  1. Echo 106 / Alternate Sun Rays 00:00
  2. Pheek / There You Are 01:45
  3. R.M / Jardin De Nuit 04:57
  4. Mikron / Amn't I 08:24
  5. Psyche / Elements 11:20
  6. Omar-S & Shadow Ray / Oasis #1 16:59
  7. Suburban Knight / The Groove (Pan Mix) 20:50
  8. Silk / Symplicity 24:22
  9. Orgue Electronique / Rootbound 26:38
  10. The Chicago Shags / International Banking 30:48
  11. $tinkworx / Mudpump 33:37
  12. The Golden Retrievers / Iron Beach 37:46
  13. Phase 4 Stereo / Tin Piano 42:09
  14. Legowelt / Beach Oceano 45:50
  15. Brothomstates / Matala Bobo 50:51
  16. Orgue Electronique / End Titles 56:24

This set was thrown together to play Legowelt's Beach Oceano. I've had it on repeat for weeks, since I found it on Unknown To The Unknown's bandcamp page. It reminds me of his Teac Life album; like Teac Life, Oceano is a free download and can picked up at the link above.

There's lots of great stuff in this hour beyond that - Carl Craig's gorgeous Elements, Suburban Knight's Groove, Matala Bobo (the B-side to Rktic, which I've played before). And (!) Tin Piano by my friend Phase 4 Stereo, released on the local netlabel Clusterflux.

I'm thinking electro again next week, followed by my usual celebration of bass in August. Thanks as always to aNONradio for hosting my show, and thanks to everybody out there listening.

MTT125 Spectrogram

A mix of what I've been listening to this week: the usual electro, IDM, and techno. No plan beyond that.

Right-click save-as here or on the spectrogram above to download the mix from aNONradio's archives.

  1. R.M / Déambulation 00:00
  2. Scape One / Transcendent Thought 02:20
  3. Psychic TV / L.I.E.S. 05:47
  4. John Shima / Depopulation (Binalog Remix) 08:18
  5. Nullptr / Skyline 12:20
  6. The Black Dog / Skin Clock 17:07
  7. Axiom 23 / Vapour Drive 22:23
  8. Claudio Solis / Vedanta 25:44
  9. Reptant / Microstructure 30:37
  10. Reedale Rise / Foliage 34:39
  11. Zwart Licht Kommando / Teletext 40:01
  12. Underground Resistance / Beauty Of Decay 43:20
  13. LFO / LFO 46:00
  14. Danoise / RNS 47:35
  15. LFO / Groovy Distortion 49:21
  16. Eric McIntyre / Aesthetic Perception 52:18
  17. Reedale Rise / Daphnis 55:33

I found Claudio Solis' bandcamp a few weeks ago and have been enjoying his work since. SOLIS003, 004, and 006 are good releases if you're into syncopated drum programming. They're kind of wonky, in a way I like.

RNS, the cover of LFO by Danoise played here as track 14, is a demo song that comes with the tracker Renoise. It was produced in 2013, according to the song comments. I threw it in as a bit of fun, and as an excuse to A/B compare the two tracks.

All that and more Reedale Rise, a track from the excellent Pure Space PS001.1, and a lovely Psychic TV song. All good music, but some lazy arrangement.

MTT 124 / Summer Scape

MTT124 Spectrogram

It's been a warm and humid week, so I pulled a stack of techno and wandered through it for an hour.

Right-click save-as here or on the spectrogram above to download the mix from aNONradio's archives.

  1. John Beltran / Soft Summer 00:00
  2. Convextion / Astrum 02:30
  3. D5 / Floatation Tank 07:51
  4. Dark Matrix / Untitled [LSF007 C3] 13:11
  5. Jason Fine / Midwest B 17:05
  6. Mike Huckaby / Wavetable No. 9 20:01
  7. Aril Brikha / On And On 25:22
  8. Drox / Moonlight Dub (Dawn Mix) 28:54
  9. Tracey / Outcome 33:51
  10. Paris (Black Fu) / Black In The Green 38:51
  11. Digitek / Detroit After Dark 41:14
  12. Jeff Mills / Solid Sleep 44:25
  13. Model 500 / I Wanna Be There (Edit) 47:11
  14. Metroplex Social Club / Hubble (Original Mix) 50:00
  15. Kit Clayton / Belt Frictional Problem 55:33

My first highlight is Too Many Clowns (Not Enough Jokers), which is featured in this mix as tracks 10 and 15. It's the first 12" on Throw, a sublabel of Twilight 76. Every track on this thing excellent, including DJ Godfather's locked grooves. But the dark Black In The Green and the slippery Belt Frictional Problem stand above the rest.

Tracey's Outcome EP is another release I'll recommend this week. It's a great electro four-tracker with some varied and interesting production. I had to slow down the track included in this mix by a lot, so check the link above to hear its original form.

Drox's Pitch The System EP, represented here by Moonlight Dub (Dawn Mix), is my third recommendation. It's a sweet compilation of proper electro and techno tracks, and is currently available for free at Drox's bandcamp. He also has music out on a label called Analog Cabin, and appears on the Southern Outpost / Datadisk System Updates EP, which I've played before on this show.

There's always more to talk about - Mike Huckaby's excellent Life With The Wave, the Metroplex Social Club 12" on Puzzlebox, D5 and old Delsin. But I've got to stop somewhere. Good tracks, loose mixing this week.

DJ Megaphysics and I played our regular show at Ground Kontrol last night. No theme this time, just selecting music we've been listening to over the month.

Megaphysics opened the night with some house-y and wave-y music, on the slower end of things. His set here features a couple of nice Twin Peaks references; see if you can spot them. Here's his tracklist:

  36. Ghentlon / Techno Dream
  37. Raiders of the Lost Arp / Arrival
  38. Boo Williams / Eternal Mind
  39. Unknown Artist / Untitled 01

I played the latter half of the night, running back a combination of my recent radio shows. Electro, IDM, and Synthwave, accelerating into a little Dubstep at the end. Here's my list:

  1. Reedale Rise / Foliage ~11:30 PM
  2. Miotek / White Funk
  3. Tourist At Home / We've Got Strength In Numbers
  4. Mitch Murder / Bertone's Theme

  10. Drexciya / Song Of The Green Whale
  11. Reedale Rise / Keep Sleeping
  12. Echo 106 / Dark Strings
  13. Mikron / Amn't I
  14. Lowfish / Im, Comfort
  15. Matt Whitehead / Lunashock
  16. Drexciya / Wave Jumper
  17. The Exaltics / Mother Ship To Solaris
  18. Kemko / 1st Contact (Drew Progress Remix)
  19. Scape One / The Soul Selected
  20. R.M / Distant Haze
  21. Jega / British Rail
  22. Autechre / Second Scout
  23. Objekt / Porcupine
  24. RAC / Tunnel Talk
  25. Ed Chamberlain / Somefind
  26. Ramadanman / Blimey
  27. Breakage / Late Night
  28. Jus Wan / Connect
  29. RSD / Over It
  30. Om Unit / Despite It All
  31. Kromestar / Rainy Dayz
  32. Jus Wan / Stand Dub
  33. Dimomib / Hip Shop
  34. Distance / Delight
  35. Plant43 / Neon
  36. Delayscape / Last Day Of Spring
  37. 2562 / Basin Dub
  38. Bandulu / Isn't It Time

Finally, Megaphysics got in one last track to close the night. I like to imagine that in some alternate universe this (or perhaps some other KLF song) was on the Twin Peaks soundtrack.

  1. The KLF / Build A Fire ~1:40 AM

Thanks as always to Ground Kontrol for having us, and for everyone who listened & enjoyed the tunes.

MTT111 Spectrogram

Going for something a bit more fun this week. Brightening up to match the season. Selection is the usual electro, IDM, and techno, all at about 120 BPM.

Right-click save-as here or on the spectrogram above to download the mix from aNONradio's archives.

  1. Behind Clouds / Solitude Of Silence 00:00
  2. Miotek / Data 010 02:23
  3. Industrial Bass Machine / Artificial Intelligence 1991 06:22
  4. Sbles3plex / Mathematic Universe 09:20
  5. Paul Blackford / Hydro Glide (Ali3ns3xtoy Remix) 13:48
  6. Drexciya / Song Of The Green Whale 18:29
  7. Reedale Rise / Keep Sleeping 22:31
  8. A Guy Called Gerald / People Moover 25:16
  9. Zwart Licht Kommando / Tube 28 27:05
  10. Mikron / Black Sands 30:28
  11. Transparent Sound & Scape One & Karoshi / Solid Grooves 35:56
  12. Two Sandwiches Short Of A Lunchbox / Too Good To Be Strange 39:28
  13. Tura / Reishi 41:42
  14. Bobby BBQ / Hot Milk 46:59
  15. Yage / Coda Coma 51:18
  16. Mikron / Ask Me 54:52

Planning for this mix started with Drexciya's Song Of The Green Whale. It's a tune that reminds me of spring; it always makes me happy. The rest of the mix is a combination of songs to go with Green Whale and bits I've been listening to recently.

Bobby BBQ's Hot Milk LP is something I found only a few days ago, while going through the Future City Records catalog. It's a fun album, sounds to me more vaporwave than FCR's usual retrowave style. And it sits nicely with Plaid and FSOL, I think.

I'm not sure what I'll play next; maybe something fast again.

MTT No. 099 / Mystery World

Posted 2019-01-18. Permalink. Tagged ambient, anonradio, electro, house, movement through thought, music, radio, techno.

MTT099 Spectrogram

Electro, house and techno this week. Leaning on tracks that are easier to follow - kicks on 1 and 3, similar to MTT093.

Right-click save-as here or on the spectrogram above to download the mix from aNONradio's archives.

  1. =UHU= / This Is Revolution 00:00
  2. Sbles3plex / Volem Plastics 02:54
  3. Elecktroids / Algorithm 07:12
  4. NRSB-11 / Market Forces 10:19
  5. DMX Krew / Heisenberg 14:13
  6. MNLTH / Flektro 17:28
  7. Krell / Level 2 20:09
  8. Orgue Electronique / Near The Threshold 22:23
  9. Omar-S / Miss You 25:47
  10. Marco Bernardi / The Burning Love Ensemble 28:47
  11. Raiders Of The Lost Arp / Module Detach 32:08
  12. Datassette / Musique Gélatineuse 35:08
  13. Kovyazin D & Moralez / The Night Watch 38:46
  14. Solitary Dancer / Birth Of Saturn 42:31
  15. Datassette / Mannequin On The Run 46:19
  16. NRSB-11 / 685-471 1 50:37
  17. Danny Scrilla / Eclipse 55:11
  18. Danny Scrilla / Ancient Musical Box 58:16

I picked up Datassette's Mannequin On The Run EP a couple days ago and threw this set together as a way to play a few tracks from it. Those Datassette tracks are definitely the highlight this week. That and the two NRSB-11 tracks. And Elecktroids' Algorithm, Sbles3plex' Volem Plastics, Solitary Dancer's Birth Of Saturn... better stop before I repeat the entire tracklist.

Volume levels are a bit uneven, and some of the mixing is wonky, but I'm happy. This is a good episode 99.

MTT No. 082 / Fly Away

MTT082 Spectrogram

More house and techno, a bit of IDM, a bit of acid. Mostly kind of lo-fi. A bunch of tracks I wanted to hear.

Right-click save-as here or on the spectrogram above to download the mix from aNONradio's archives.

  1. The War Against The Sun / Protostellar 00:00
  2. Aril Brikha / Embrace 01:33
  3. R.M / Chikyu-u 001 05:09
  4. Dangerous Frontiers / South Central 08:54
  5. Kenny Larkin / Butterflies 14:30
  6. Omar-S / Flying Gorgars 18:53
  7. Aphex Twin / Ptolemy 22:51
  8. User48736353001 / Lannerlog 25:16
  9. Legowelt / Beyond Ur Self 27:39
  10. Dan White / Ghost Train 31:33
  11. Legowelt / The Soul Of A City 34:38
  12. Zwart Licht Kommando / Tape Deck 38:53
  13. Chris Moss Acid / Niacin's Touch 43:25
  14. Omar S / Psychotic Photosynthesis 48:01
  15. Legowelt / U Can Fly Away From The Hood If U Want 54:11

This mix is the result of listening to Legowelt's TEAC Life all week. All three Legowelt tracks included are from TEAC Life. Highest possible recommendation for that album; it's fantastic and should be heard by everyone interested in house and techno. And it's free, so there's no reason to avoid it.

The other highlight here, beyond Legowelt's tracks, are the two tracks by Omar-S. Flying Gorgars and Psychotic Photosynthesis, both massive tracks. Gorgars is available from his website as wav; Photosynthesis appears to still be available as a 12" from the same website. Photosynthesis in particular is huge, just so good. Wonderfully hypnotic stuff.

This one is alright! It scratched an itch. The track choices are a bit weird, and it doesn't totally work, but the tracks are good, so I guess it balances out.
